day 29 : to Muros

Been a busy few days. We stayed in Camerinas for 2 nights and then tried to sail south to Muros. This plan failed thanks to too little wind and we motored the whole way. Darn. Big swell made for an incomfortbale passage and since we started very early , leaving in the dark at 7am, we managed to get to Muros for about mid afternoon. 
Lovely place with a. Super friendly marina and a very unusual local resident here. Cofi the dolphin has been a. Source of entertainment for us all whilst we have been here. He even accompanied us on a paddle board expedition.

    Seeing a dolphin is very special. I'm enjoying the blog, hope things continue to go well. It sounds amazing.

ARC Day 29. we arrived

Sad to say it's been a long time for me to get round to this post. Durig the night we sailed alongside Mayol anoter ARC boat from Sweden and we decided to stay together fo rthe last leg. We could tell that our arrival would be after dark and we watched the sun go down over the sillouette of St Lucia that night. By about 8pm we had made it round the top of St Lucia with just 6 Nm to go. Our twin headsails were furled in and we could have put up the mainsail ofr this last stretch but we just couldn't face going up the front to unlock the halyard. We hadn't used the mainsail for the whole trip so had never unhooked the halyard from the reefing horns. We motored the last 6 miles and were super excited ton get VHF calls from friedns on re and Water Dogs already in the marina and hte anchorage. Christian from re was kind enough to come out on his dinghy with a flashing light to show us the way in - all the marina entrance light being defunct! Arrival was amazing - there was a hug...

ARC day 17 . 7th December 2021

ARC day 17 . 7th December 2021 NB day 17 because the ARC started on the 21st November. Weather a bit overcast today with the that of showers but not any actual rain so far. Somewhat annoyingly the watermaker cooling fan has failed again, this was replaced new in Las Palmas. It's ok because we have a little usb fan we can wedge into the top to keep the pump from overheating. Just as well because tomorrow we will need to make extra water to fill the solar shower bag. After three days at CV sea see are pretty sticky..... Yesterday we made 147Nm which means an average speed of about 6 knots : better than I expected in fact. We still have 1741 Nm to go of course(as of lunchtime) but we just have to keep on. So far we have just emailed the twin Headsails trolling them in and out as the wind rises and falls. There are flying fish everywhere today, including a few that have landed on the boat overnight. Lunch today was CousCous and corned beef which was a big hit. Shepherd's p...

Arc day 15: 5th December 2021

Writing at night on the third watch (2am to 6am). After leaving after lunch yesterday we have navigated past the acceleration zone between the islands. S sea state is not great, still pretty lumpy out here. We have our twin Headsails out and are sailing downwind. Proble! Ismthafnwe are getting wind from 45 degree so currently sailing 242 but we would prefer 270. Will have to sort that out in the day time later on. Am hoping the twins can workipmto a bit higher angle but best to wait for daylight to do this. So right now it's hold on tight time. Sent from Iridium Mail & Web.
