ARC day 20 supplement
ARC Day 20: supplemental We are just starting noght watches and have a bit gingerly decided to leave the wind vane in charge overnight. In principle this should be fine as the wind osnt predicted to shift much or change in strength significantly tonight. The problem.is that should we need to deactivate ot and go back to the electric tillerpilot we have to climb up the nack of the boat to reinsert two locking pins. A slightly hazardous maneouvre in the dark on your own if we sont lock it the elwctric tillerpilot will still work bit there may be some resonance between them if they are not in phase. Engineers generally trt ro avoid running two independent contorl systems on the same device at the same time as they may compete. So to summarise I am expecting to spend the night watching the band flip back and forth and keep an take eye on our heading. Fingers crossed. I guess you may be wondering why we don't just continue with the electric tiller pilot? well we couls as power isn
t a
problem but ifnit did become troublesome then having the option of the windvane system is very comforting so we are taking the opportunity ro test it properly.
