ARC day 24: down winding.....

ARC day 24: down winding.....
Finally a day that started with a reasonable sea. We have zipped along all day on a mostly following sea with our twin Headsails out makig a good 6 knots for most of the day. It's not fast this sailog lark, kind of about the speed your car will do in idle, but it's free power and it just keeps going as long as the wind holds. All we have to do is keep an eye ommfhesomd speed and direction and adjust the sails. So far that's been possible from the cockpit without going forward but we expect to have to change our Headsails for the last bit of the passage.
Currently we have 715Nm left to go and at 137Nm per day that's about 5.5 days. A few of our supplies are getting low,we have only three cartons of apple juice left and only three bottles of squash. Otherwise we have enough tinned food and water to last about 2 more weeks. Tonight's dinner of Fray Bentos pies was great - just like caravan food from my childhood.
A huge super pod of dolphins passed us by this afternoon along with a solitary turtle going the other way.
The other ARC boats have now mostly finished of course but the few who ended up pulling into Cape Verde like us are still on the way. Zeester, Mayol and Ella of Stockholm are all travelling along with us although the nearest of these is Zeester about 40Nm away. Still we are in daily email contact with them all and it's great to have company.
We are starting to think about what to do in St Lucia after a suitable recovery period. We will have to get through Christmas first which is going to be a bit of a scramble. maybe we will give ourselves a stay in a hotel as a Christmas present.
